Shooting victim crashes into Jackson playground, dies
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A shooting victim has died after he crashed his car into a Jackson playground.
Jackson Police Department Commander Tyree Jones tells media outlets that 50-year-old Rodney Beck was shot once in his arm Tuesday morning and drove away from the scene for about a half-mile before crashing into a fence and coming to a stop on the playground at Mary C. Jones Head Start Center. Beck was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Chief Lee Vance says no children were present when the crash occurred.
Police say the suspect, who was wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey, ran away after shooting Beck. Investigators are trying to determine what led to the shooting.
