Libby Murphy remembered as passionate community leader

JACKSON, Tenn.-The Jackson community mourns the loss of a philanthropist and community leader.

Friends of Libby Murphy told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News she passed away Wednesday night after a brief illness.
Murphy worked in Jackson and Madison County for various organizations and causes.

Some of her closest friends said above all, she gave of herself to make her community an even better place.

“She had a very generous spirit. She was always working for something greater than herself,” said close friend Tammy Buchannan.

“She was outgoing, you know, she was passionate, she was, you know, a warrior when it came down for a cause,” said Madison County Sheriff John Mehr, also a friend of Murphy.

Visitation will be held Saturday at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home North Chapel from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at First United Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m.
