Hundreds celebrate the history of the Mound City neighborhood
JACKSON, Tenn. — This weekend has been a celebration of history for one South Jackson community. Saturday hundreds tailgated during the Mound City Reunion on the Hill, held outside the historic New Hope Baptist Church. The neighborhood was founded in the 1920’s near the Iselin St. rail yard and an onion field. Many community members reflected on their time at Washington Douglas Elementary School.
“This event here is to celebrate our neighborhood, celebrate unity in our community,” reunion committee member Tara Skinner said. “We want to celebrate love that we have for each other and growing up in this neighborhood together.”
The Mound City Reunion committee members say the tailgate will become an annual event to stay connected and preserve community history.
