Early duck hunting season starts Saturday

JACKSON, Tenn. — Hunters may be headed to bed early Friday night as they get ready for the early start of wood duck and teal season on Saturday.

This early season runs through the 14th. The daily bag limit is six with no more than two wood ducks.

Going over your bag limit can get you a heavy fine or even a misdemeanor charge.

And of course, officials say safety should always be your No. 1 priority.

“If you’re hunting in a group, do be careful,” said Lt. William Morris with Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Region 1. “Pay attention to what direction you’re shooting in, always pay attention to your target and what’s beyond your target, and make sure you shoot into a safe zone.”

Don’t forget that to hunt waterfowl, you must have all the appropriate licenses and permits including a federal duck stamp, which has increased from $15 to $25.
