UT Martin interim chancellor visits Jackson Rotary Club
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Rotary Club on Wednesday welcomed the interim chancellor of the University of Tennessee Martin to their weekly lunch meeting.
Interim Chancellor Dr. Robert Smith talked to the club about the future of the school and the positive direction he says it’s headed. He also talked about the issues it faced with enrollment and accreditation.
“We did not do as good of a job of documenting where we were,” Dr. Smith said. “We knew what kind of institution we were. We just needed to put that in proper perspective. We have submitted that report — it’s 196 pages long.”
Smith says school enrollment was down a little but that they have seen an increase in ACT scores and GPAs of incoming freshmen.
Smith also said the school has narrowed down the search for the new chancellor to four candidates and hopes they will take over in January.
