Campaign finance panel launches probe of Stand for Children
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Registry of Campaign Finance has launched an investigation into an education advocacy group’s actions during Nashville school board elections.
The Tennessean reports (http://tnne.ws/2co45cw ) that the panel decided Wednesday that there were enough questions raised in a complaint to proceed with the probe.
The consumer rights group Tennessee Citizen Action alleges that the group Stand for Children’s political action committee violated the law by coordinating with several pro-charter school candidates during the campaign. The PAC spent $200,000 in Nashville and more than $700,000 around the state.
WSMV-TV reported before the election that Stand for Children Director Daniel O’Donnell met with one candidate during a 10-day mandatory blackout period before the election. The group’s attorney said the meeting occurred during O’Donnell’s day off.
