West Tennesseans mark World Alzheimer’s Day with balloon release
JACKSON, Tenn. — In honor of World Alzheimer’s Day, Brookdale Jackson Oaks hosted a special balloon release, Wednesday.
The assisted living center in north Jackson held the event in honor of the millions of people who suffer from the memory-robbing disease. The say also pays tribute to the countless family members who carry the silent burden of caring for their ailing loved ones.
“Those with Alzheimer’s lose their memories, but we certainly remember them,” said Renee Mitchell, Resident Program Director at Brookdale Jackson Oaks. “We have their memories and we’re glad to share them and remember.” Mitchell said workers often talk with their residents about the memories they’ve shared.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It affects about 5.4 million Americans.
