6 in custody after east Jackson shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police took six people into custody after a Tuesday morning shooting in east Jackson

Armed officers and a K9 searched a wooded area along Phillips Street. June Hicks said she watched police take a man into custody. “It’s scary,” she said.

Jackson police said officers took six people, including four juveniles, into custody after a shooting in the 800 block of nearby East Lafayette Street.

“Bullets don’t have no eyes now,” Hicks said. “They can come through the window or come through the house you know and hit me.”

Geraldine Hardshaw said police came to her house and said stay inside. “I locked my backdoors like they asked me to,” she said.

Officers said no one was hurt. Neighbors said the shooting comes as a surprise. “I hope it’ll never happen again,” Hardshaw said. “It’s scary for something like this to happen.”

Hicks said she plans to keep her doors closed. “I don’t bother nobody and I hope nobody don’t bother me and I sure ain’t gone open no door to nobody I don’t know,” Hicks said.

Police said they are not looking for anyone else at this time.

Jackson police did not release the names or ages of the people in custody.
