Donald Rumsfeld headlines Union University’s annual scholarship banquet
JACKSON, Tenn.-Union University held its annual scholarship banquet, Tuesday evening. Highlighting the event was its keynote speaker, Donald Rumsfeld.
The banquet was a fundraising event for the university’s scholarship fund.
Rumsfeld, the former Secretary of Defense under presidents Gerald R. Ford and George W. Bush, spoke to donors about the continuing threats to America’s national security.
School leaders said having speakers like Rumsfeld helps the school’s ability to further student’s education.
“The money that’s raised tonight goes to support student scholarships, and so it allows people who might otherwise not be able to come to Union to have a Union education. So we’re very grateful for them and for the way they support Union, not just at this event tonight, but throughout the year,” said Tim Ellsworth, associate vice president of university communications at Union.
This is the 19th annual scholarship banquet held by Union University.
