‘National Night Out’ events bring officers, communities together

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Communities all over Jackson and Madison County celebrated “National Night Out” Tuesday night.

National Night Out graphicThe 33rd annual event was aimed at uniting the community with local law enforcement. One of the biggest community events took place at Nova Elementary School in northeast Madison County.

Attendees enjoyed free food, karate classes, giveaways, games and people even got a chance to take their pictures with special guests.

Organizers said the event could not have come at a better time.

“It’s a bad time to be a police officer, just being real, and there is a lot of crime still going on,” event organizer Kelly Franklin said. “We’ve got resistance with police officers, resistance with the people in the community, and the whole purpose of this is to bring people together.”

Events took place all over the city and county, and law enforcement officers tried to attend as many as they could.
