Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Sharon Hedge

BRUCETON, Tenn. — 20161004_094637“I’ve been teaching 25 years and the kids keep me coming back,” said Sharon Hedge.

Hedge is a veteran in the classroom at Hollow-Rock Bruceton Central High School. “It still makes me feel wonderful even after all these years.”

She teaches 6th grade social studies and science and has been able to watch families in the community grow throughout her 25 years.

“The first year I taught I had a self contained classroom and a lot of the students I had then, I’ve had their children in class.”

Her favorite part about being in the classroom is knowing she makes an impact on her students. “They’ll say ‘my mother had you’ or ‘my father had you’ and a lot of times they’ll say ‘they really liked you’ so it makes you feel good.”

Hedge said teaching was a calling that she answered after having two children of her own and has loved it ever since.Sharon Hedge

“I still look forward to getting up every morning and coming to work every morning,” she said. “There’s not many people that can say that they love coming to work. I’m still smiling at the end of the day.”

Hedge will now be eligible for the state-wide Tennessee Education Lottery, Educator of the Month award. Starting in November to vote for her or any of the other nominees go to: seehowitaddsup.com
