10th Annual Corn & Music Festival starts in Sharon
SHARON, Tenn. — It seems like every small town in west Tennessee has their signature annual event and the town of Sharon is no exception. The soothing sounds of gospel music rang out as the sunset over Corinth Baptist Church for day one of the 10th Annual Sharon Corn and Music Festival Sunday. Neighbors sat in their lawn chairs as local singers kicked off a week filled with events.
“We just tried to have something, just a time for the neighbors to come in and see one another,” Corn Festival committee member William Witherington said. “People don’t visit like they use to. We just tried to have something to bring people together.”
Just about every night there is some type of dinner deal and free music. Starting Thursday night there will be fair food, free carnival rides downtown.
All week long a variety of events will take place across Sharon, leading up the the big finale on Saturday.
The Sharon Volunteer Fire department is helping out, hosting a dinner, a concert and a health fair this week. Friday, bragging rights are on the line during the corn competition.
“If you make something that made out of corn, you just get it and bring the recipe with you,” Witherington said. “We will have judges and somebody will win some prizes.”
Saturday morning features a free pancake breakfast, car show and a parade; followed by more music and events that afternoon.
“We got a lot going on this week,” Witherington said. “We got something everyday. Something for everybody sometime during the week. We’re going to have a big time.”
