Competitors take part in Senior Olympics at Jackson Fairgrounds Park
JACKSON, Tenn. — The local chapter of the Tennessee Senior Olympics hosted its annual games Wednesday at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park.
Organizers say 22 nursing homes participated and more than 250 residents attended the festivities, which started off with a torch-bearing ceremony and even some dancing.
The events included wheelchair racing, bean bag tosses and basketball, to name a few.
An event organizer told us about this year’s fun theme.
“This year is the ’50s theme, which we are loving,” Senior Olympics organizer Heather Ray said. “We’ve got lots of poodle skirts and pink ladies and t-birds all around.”
Local seniors have been participating in these games for more than 25 year now and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.
