Madison Co. leaders discuss jail needs
JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County officials discuss the future of inmates.
Sheriff John Mehr, along with county commissioners, engineers and jail officials, kicked off a two-day meeting Tuesday morning.
Engineers toured the inside of the current jail to see what could be repaired.
Sheriff Mehr said the purpose of these meetings is to talk about what rebuilding and renovating would look like.
“They’re giving us design ideas, we’re going through everything that’s needed,” Sheriff Mehr said. “We meet the federal standards and the state standards, which are pretty tough, but also make sure we’re within guidelines of liability.”
County leaders have met with architects multiple times and will continue to meet over the next several months.
