Weakley Co. woman shoots, kills husband in domestic situation
WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — A woman shot and killed her husband Sunday evening at a home just east of Martin in what deputies are calling a domestic situation.
Deputies responded around 10 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 2200 block of Hyndsver Road where they found Stephen Delauter, 45, dead from a gunshot wound, according to a release from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department.
They say Delauter had been shot by his wife who lived at the residence. Delauter had reportedly been living in the Rutherford area after being arrested in September on a domestic assault charge against his wife.
Investigators say Delauter had parked his vehicle over half a mile away from the home, broke into the residence and assaulted the woman with a knife and shot at her more than once with a semiautomatic firearm.
His wife had a firearm in the bedroom and returned fire. Delauter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman has not been charged.
There was an active order of protection prohibiting Delauter from contacting the woman, according to the release.
Delauter’s body was sent to the Shelby County medical examiner for an autopsy.
The case will be presented to the January term of the Weakley County grand jury.
