Police: Fatal Jonesboro home invasion was gang-related
JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) – Clayton County police believe a home invasion that left two children dead over the weekend was gang-related.
Fifteen-year-old Daveon Coates and his sister, 11-year-old Tatiyana Coates, were shot dead inside their Jonesboro home early Saturday.
Police Chief Michael Register said during a news conference Tuesday that the victims’ mother had allowed a family of six from Chattanooga, Tennessee to move into their home. Authorities say a 15-year-old member of the Tennessee family became involved with gangs and the subsequent home invasion was a gang-related act of retaliation.
Register says the two children who were killed weren’t the intended targets.
The unidentified 15-year-old who is accused of being involved in gang activity was found and arrested Tuesday in Chattanooga.
No adults were in the house when the children were killed.
