Sisters, abandoned by parents, reunite in West Tenn. after more than 50 years

JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s a heart-warming story of a family reunion that has been more than half a century in the making.

In 1962, five siblings were abandoned by their parents on a highway in Texas, and all were placed in foster care. Sharon Welch was separated from her siblings when she was adopted and never heard from them again, until now.

Sharon’s adopted sister started searching on a genealogy website and found information about her biological family.

After several years of unanswered emails, Sharon finally got in touch with her long-lost siblings, one of whom lives in Jackson.

“Fantastic! It is fantastic. It’s truly amazing. It’s been exciting, but extremely emotional at the same time,” said Sharon Welch, who was
reunited with her sister.

The family has set up their own Facebook page so that they can keep in touch and hope to have a big family reunion soon.
