Downtown businesses salute soldiers with fundraiser

JACKSON, Tenn. — Several downtown Jackson businesses partnered together Friday night in support of veterans, their families and first responders for the first-ever Downtown Jackson Salutes Our Soldiers fundraiser.

salute-our-soldiers“Basically, you come out and buy a $10 wristband. That gets you into all five stops,” event coordinator Joel Gardner said.

Stops included five downtown businesses — Rock’n Dough, Fleet Street Pub, West Alley BBQ, Miss Ollie’s and the Downtown Tavern.

Each wristband purchased supports local heroes. Gardner said 100 percent of the proceeds are going to be donated to the Intrepid Fallen Hero Fund and the Jackson Police Department.

“My mom and my dad are veterans and they’ve served our country both in Iraq and in other places abroad, so I think it’s really awesome,” Rock’n Dough server Hannah McClaskey said about the fundraiser.
