Liberty Tech football team makes Semi-Finals
NORTH JACKSON, Tenn. — High school football teams across Tennessee came and saw, but only few have conquered, making it all the way to the TSSAA Semi-Finals.
One of those teams being local high school, Liberty Tech, who is going on to play Christ Presbyterian Academy this Friday.
Liberty fought hard for their place in the Semi-Finals this Friday night at their game against Dyersburg, starting the second half down 21 to nothing. But Tyler Turner, head coach at Liberty, said with a little half-time pep talk…
“I told them a story about a couple teams in Arkansas, a team that was down 35 points at halftime, came back and won 42-35 in the second half. So it can be done. And we’re going to do it,” said Turner.
And a little no quit mentality from the players…
“They never had a doubt,” said Turner, “You didn’t see heads hanging at halftime or anything like that.”
They fought through until the end. In the rain. Winning 35 to 36. Their next game bringing deja vu to Coach Turner, who was here last season. Same time. Same team.
“What an opportunity it is. We can make history here. We’ve never been to a state championship at Liberty, and this is the year we get a chance to do it, but we got to beat CPA first,” Turner said.
Coach Turner also told us, having this home field advantage for his players is huge.
“We haven’t lost at home since I’ve been at this school in the last two years,” Turner says, “So we want to try to keep it that way.”
