Documents show stabbing suspect had previous criminal history

JACKSON, Tenn.-In a  follow-up from a stabbing that happened during the Thanksgiving weekend, WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News has learned more about the suspect.

unnamedDocuments from the TBI reported Donald Fitzgerald White was arrested at least nine times in Madison, Dyer and Crockett counties dating back to 2004.

White reportedly stabbed an employee at Pathways Behavioral Health Services several times Thursday afternoon.

He was later shot and killed by an officer from the Jackson Police Department.

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News reached out to representatives with Jackson Madison-County General Hospital, but they declined to comment on what happened in their facility, what could have attributed to the incident and what steps they are taking to prevent it from happening in the future.

TBI investigators said Monday they are in the process of finding answers.

“In this type of investigation, as with any investigation we embark, we are going to collect any and all relevant evidence,” Josh Devine, public information officer for the TBI said.

WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News is working on finding out more information about the suspect and what happened on the days leading up to the attack.

But investigators said those questions will be answered on a later date.

“We want to do that work as quickly as possible, but we also want to do it as completely as possible and that’s why it takes a considerable amount of time,” Devine said.

DeVine said there is evidence that needs to be processed, which will help piece together the series of events.

“Evidence processing doesn’t happen on a CSI kind of timetable,” he said. “We need to take our time to get our answers.”

White’s prior charges ranged from domestic assault to theft.

He most recently was arrested in January 2016 for an alleged child support law violation.

The woman who sustained injuries in the original attack is currently being treated at a hospital in Memphis.
