Accused gunman in Brownsville armory shooting appears in court
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A man accused of pulling the trigger in a shooting at a high school homecoming party appeared Tuesday in court.
Kyandre Benson, 20, a Jackson native, appeared before Judge Roland Reid for his preliminary hearing.
Benson was extradited from Detroit, Michigan, in January. TBI agents believe he was the gunman behind the shooting at the Brownsville armory on Jan. 27 where 10 party-goers were injured.
Investigators say a fight broke out during a Haywood High School homecoming party around 11:45 that night, then shots were fired.
Although no one was seriously hurt, according to the TBI two victims were transported to a Memphis hospital.
Benson faces 10 counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
On Tuesday, his preliminary hearing was pushed to April 11, when the arresting officer and TBI agents can be in court to testify for the state if necessary.
Benson remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bond.
