Police make arrest in stabbing death of Nashville nurse

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Nashville police say they arrested a man in the stabbing death of a 23-year-old nurse.

The Tennessean reports (http://tnne.ws/2m68sO9 ) 24-year-old Christopher Drew McLawhorn faces criminal homicide and especially aggravated burglary charges connected to Tiffany Ferguson’s death in her Nashville apartment on Feb. 28.

Police said an apparent stranger randomly broke into Ferguson’s apartment in the early morning and stabbed her to death.

Police said the man, who was checking for open vehicles and apartments, entered Ferguson’s unlocked front door, left with items from inside and returned.

Police identified McLawhorn, a homeless man, as a person of interest when they arrested him for misdemeanor marijuana possession Sunday. He denied knowledge of Ferguson’s death.

Media reports say Ferguson was a Loretto, Alabama, native and a 2015 University of North Alabama graduate.
