School leaders invite public to review proposed new textbooks

JACKSON, Tenn. — Instructional leaders of the Jackson-Madison County School System are asking the public to take a look at proposed new textbooks for the district.

The adoption process for career and technical education textbooks is currently underway. Through Thursday, anyone interested can stop by the central office on North Parkway to take part in deciding which books students will use.

“We are open to the public,” JMCSS spokesperson Ginger Carver said. “They can come and review, look through the books, make recommendations if they choose, give feedback, and we have a box that they can write comments down so that the committee can review those as well.”

The state Board of Education approves a list of textbooks and instructional materials from which school districts may choose.

Districts can also adopt, or apply for a waiver, to use a different textbook.
