Local officers face off in Battle of the Badges softball tournament
JACKSON, Tenn. — Local law enforcement agencies who usually assist one another on the job went head to head on the field this weekend.
The Battle of Badges softball tournament took place Saturday afternoon at Fred Young Park in south Jackson. Representatives tell us the tournament was held to not only build camaraderie among the departments but to support the Jackson Police Spouses Association.
“We are a fund of the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, so in the event that a first responder is injured or killed in the line of duty or experiences a family crisis, we wanted to have a pot of money set aside so that we could provide financial assistance to that family,” said Elisha Crowell with the Jackson Police Spouses Association.
A majority of the tournament funds were raised by the sponsorship of local businesses.
The winner of Saturday’s tournament was the Jackson Fire Department, receiving a trophy as well as bragging rights.
Second place went to Air Evac.
