Trial date set for man facing tampering with evidence charge in self-defense shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man charged in connection with a deadly self-defense shooting in east Jackson will go to trial in early 2018.

Jarvis Miller faced a judge Monday in Madison County Circuit Court on a tampering with evidence charge.

“Mr. Miller, we’re going to go ahead and set your case for trial on Tuesday, Jan. 30,” Madison County Circuit Court Judge Don Allen said.

Police said Miller admitted to throwing a gun outside a vehicle after shooting a man in self-defense in March 2017 on Willa Drive in Jackson.

Miller’s court-appointed attorney told the judge he discussed the case with the prosecutor. “I just don’t think we can, will be able to come to an agreement on this,” Miller’s attorney said.
