Flash Flood Watch Friday Through Saturday Morning
Weather Update – 10:15 p.m. – Thursday
We’re dry now but it won’t stay that way overnight, the next feature of the forecast off to our west will bring showers and a few thunderstorms for the start of the holiday weekend returning rain to the area as early as Friday morning. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for all of West Tennessee from tomorrow through Saturday morning where over 3″ of rain will be possible.
Temperatures have been mild on both sides of the day but will remain warm (for December) overnight. It is the first night of Winter after all! Showers will return in the overnight hours with heavy rain for most of the day tomorrow into Saturday morning. There’s still some differences in the computer model data as to where the heaviest rain will fall over the next two days but a band of 3-6″ looks likely in West Tennessee. Skies will remain cloudy across West Tennessee overnight with breezy weather keeping temperatures from cooling much overnight with lows in the middle and upper 50s on Friday morning. Scattered showers will be falling by then and will continue through most of the day tomorrow.
The threat for severe weather is low but flash flooding will be a big concern for those traveling during the start of the holiday weekend. Rain will begin to taper off during the morning on Saturday with most, if not all, of the rain gone by the afternoon. We’ll be cold but dry for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Expect temperatures to return below freezing for the first time in over a week this weekend before the next rain returns on Wednesday night.
