Local Red Cross volunteers help house fire victims during holiday weekend
JACKSON, Tenn. — Disaster action team members with the local Red Cross chapter spent the new year assisting house fire victims.
During the past few days including the holiday weekend, volunteers have been busy helping families in need.
Some volunteers say disasters don’t stop for the holidays so it’s important for them to be there supporting the victims.
One disaster action team trainee who’s in high school spent her New Year’s Eve helping fire victims in Gibson County.
“I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and to get out there and experience that is something that’s just real close to my heart,” disaster action team trainee Shania Hart said.
The Red Cross is also looking for nursing assistants to become volunteers. Nurses will help replace prescriptions lost in a disaster. You must be a licensed professional to provide this assistance.
