Air Choice One to offer flights to Atlanta
JACKSON, Tenn. — West Tennesseans will soon have a new travel option as Air Choice One will offer flights from Jackson’s McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport to Atlanta.
“We’re really excited,” said Steve Smith, executive director of Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority. “We’ve been working on this for a year or longer.”
Starting March 1, you can fly direct from McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport to Atlanta. Officials say this wasn’t even an option until Air Choice One came to Jackson.
“What this does is opens up America’s premier business airport to this community,” Kyle Spurgeon, CEO of the Jackson Chamber, said.
This is in addition to the 12 flights a week to St. Louis.
At the announcement on Tuesday, officials said choosing Atlanta was not only to give Hub City residents more options when flying but to make it cheaper.
“When you’re leaving Jackson and you’re going to fly, everyone looks at leaving from Memphis or Nashville. Put McKellar-Sipes in there and actually look first there,” Spurgeon said.
Air Choice One has a four-year contract with McKellar-Sipes.
Officials say they expect this new service to be popular.
“Atlanta has been a destination that people in Jackson have really been after,” Spurgeon said.
The option to fly to Atlanta also opens up new business opportunities for the Hub City.
“When we are able to say you can fly direct from Jackson to Atlanta, direct from Atlanta back to Jackson, that just gives us another selling point,” Spurgeon said.
Tickets for Atlanta go on sale Sunday.
