Man charged with attempted murder in east Jackson shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man is charged with attempted murder on accusations of shooting at a man Monday near Lane College.

Bryan Cordell Burchett, 19, is accused of firing a handgun out of a car window at another man who was walking near Orchard Street, according to court documents.

The man Burchett is accused of shooting at told police he had been confronted by several men on the Lane College campus about an hour before the shooting. He said Burchett was in the group and was armed with a handgun.

Police say the man identified Burchett as the gunman from a photo lineup.

Burchett is charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during an attempt to commit a dangerous felony.
