More land coming to industrial park near McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport
JACKSON, Tenn. — Nearly six acres of land could be added to the city’s industrial park in west Jackson.
“We bought some industrial property that we needed desperately out west,” Mayor Jerry Gist said.
It was a unanimous vote Tuesday morning for the 5.38 acres near McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport to be bought by the city.
“We’ve been told by the economic development team that if any industrial prospect comes in to look at the property and evaluate it, it’s going to be critical that we have that road frontage,” Mayor Gist said.
But as the mayor starts negotiating prices, Jackson has almost 500 acres for new businesses to build on already. That land is split between four sites around the city.
When asked Monday about the reason behind purchasing the additional acres, Mayor Gist said, “hoping and looking for another industrial prospect to land on that property.”
The four other sites are also nearly empty with only one business currently built on Ridgecrest Road.
