Middle schooler wins fire-prevention poster contest

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Fire Department presented an award to a middle school student who won first place for his fire prevention poster.

Jon Williamson is a seventh grader at Jackson Careers and Technology Middle School and out shined everyone statewide for this honor.

The competition was held last October, and Williamson was presented the award Wednesday morning in front of fellow students, teachers and staff.

Williamson talked about his winning artwork to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News.

“My poster had a house with one person running out the door and the other running out the window, running to a safe place, which was a tree, to avoid the fire,” Williamson said.

Other prizes included a gift card and a stay at the Gaylord hotel, not to mention he will visit the Governor’s Mansion this Saturday.

He says he’s nervous but excited.
