Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Sheronda Rivers

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — This week’s Educator of the Week presented by the Tennessee Education Lottery is a third grade math and science teacher at Trenton Elementary School.

After working as an engineer for around 20 years, Sheronda Rivers was looking for her next calling.

“Yes, I did feel passionate about teaching,” Rivers said. “I knew that there was something else for me to do.”

Rivers hopes she can help her students get through their own struggles in school.

“I love seeing their faces when they get it, because a lot of times we don’t want them to struggle,” Rivers said. “When they get it, you can see the little smiles on their faces, the lights in their eyes. And it just warms me that I was a part of that process.”

Rivers will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. Starting in April, to vote for her or any of the other nominees, visit www.seehowitaddsup.com.
