Showers and Thunderstorms Likely on Thursday

Weather Update – 11:00 p.m. – Wednesday, April 24th

The 3.7 earthquake near Dyersburg this morning was felt in 6 different states just before 6 a.m. this morning. The greatest amount of shaking was in Dyer, Lake, and Obion counties in West Tennessee. This was the strongest earthquake that we’ve had in West Tennessee since 6/2/2005 when a 4.0 happened less than a mile from this same spot. This is only the 5th magnitude 3.7 or stronger earthquake in West Tennessee since 1950.

Fun fact: as of 11:00 p.m. this has still been the strongest earthquake in all of North America today!

TONIGHT
Scattered showers will be possible in West Tennessee overnight with mostly cloudy skies overhead. The chance for rain overnight is 30%, with rain more likely after sunrise. Temperatures will drop to the upper 50s and lower 60s at the coolest point of the night.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday late morning, afternoon, and early evening. It won’t rain all day however, as showers will likely stay scattered. Some spots may get very little rain on Thursday where others could see close to 1″ of rain. The risk for severe weather is low, and temperatures will reach the upper 60s and lower 70s at the warmest point of the day. A slight chance for rain is now in the weekend forecast so stay with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News for the outlook for Saturday and Sunday and keep up with Storm Team Weather Online too for more updates.
