Local students celebrate International Day of Peace

JACKSON, Tenn. — Students at a local school learned an importance lesson Friday about peace.

Students in all grades at the Community Montessori School in Jackson came together to celebrate International Peace Day, as well as the 150th birthday of Dr. Maria Montessori, the founder of their curriculum and philosophy.

Students held a presentation on the importance of peace and got creative with how to spread it.

“Every student painted a peace rock, and we will be installing that in the front of our front lawn today, and then they will be taking one of those rocks out into the community to spread peace,” Principal Melinda Harris said.

The International Day of Peace is recognized on September 21 each year.
