TBI investigating Dyer County officer-involved shooting

DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting.

In a news release, the TBI says deputies with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man threatening someone with a gun on Cobb Road in Newbern around 5:45 p.m Wednesday.

The release says deputies found Eric Blankenship, 43, with a shotgun.

Blankenship allegedly refused to comply with commands to drop the gun, and the situation escalated, according to the release.

Investigators say at least one deputy fired shots, hitting Blankenship.

Blankenship was taken to an area hospital by medical helicopter for treatment.

No deputies were injured.
