Police search for suspect in boy’s killing in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Police have issued an arrest warrant in the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy on the Fourth of July in Memphis.

The Memphis Police Department said Thursday on social media that a warrant for first-degree murder and other charges has been issued in the death of Kelby Shorty.

Police also are looking for two other people who authorities believe are connected to the shooting.

Family members said the boy had just finished watching fireworks with other children on the night of July 4 when shots rang out in the Klondike neighborhood of Memphis.

Kelby was shot and he died on the scene.
