School security discussed during county commission meeting

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local county commission meeting was held on Tuesday.

Madison County Commission members met to discuss several topics on their agenda.

One of the main priorities the board members addressed was a security plan and policy for schools.

Chief Support Services Officer Tim Gilmer says the school board doesn’t want to completely lock down schools, but are prioritizing the protection of the students and staff on school property.

“You know, any time we look at safety and putting restrictions in, some people view it as an inconvenience, but again, we’re trying to keep everybody as safe we can,” Gilmer said.

The next county commission meeting is scheduled for June 30.
