Martin officers receive life-saving medals after Narcan rescue

MARTIN, Tenn. — Two local law enforcement officers receive a special honor after a rescue effort.

Martin Police Department Officers Kelly Hendon and Cody Stewart were awarded life-saving medals by Chief Don Teal at the July 5 City of Martin board meeting.

According to Martin police, the two were dispatched to a call regarding an unresponsive person in a vehicle around 9:05 p.m. on June 6, 2022.

After they arrived, the officers determined the person may be under the influence of narcotics. They each utilized their Narcan doses and were able to revive the victim.

Both officers continued to render aid and keep the individual awake until EMS arrived.

Assistant Chief of Police Phillip Fuqua says the victim survived due to their vigilant actions, and the department is proud of the officers’ professionalism, calm demeanor and use of training.
