John Madison Leatherwood
John Madison Leatherwood, age 86, resident of Moscow, Tennessee and husband of
the late Nina Frances Hollida Leatherwood, departed this life Saturday, September 24,
2022 at Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee.
John was born December 19, 1935 in Moscow, the son of the late Bynum Leatherwood
and Odell Cheek Leatherwood. He was employed by the Carrier Corporation in
Collierville, Tennessee for many years before his retirement. John loved spending time
with his family. He loved Christmas and decorating his home with hundreds of lights and
dressing as Santa Claus. He enjoyed wearing caps and had quite the collection.
Mr. Leatherwood is survived by his children, Brenda Dunn (Ronny), Jimmy Leatherwood
(Lisa), Sheila Leatherwood (Nick) and John Leatherwood, Jr. (Michelle); his
grandchildren, Luke, Shelly, Sheryl, Mark, Austin, Hayden, Ty, Cade and Miley; his
great-grandchildren, Kayla, Drew, Lucas, Anna, CJ, Jaycee and Blaze; his great-great-
grandson, Oakley; six sisters, Georgia Walls, Bonnie Byrd, Christine Tacker, Edna
Cryer (Buddy), Judy Pepper and Debra Seale; and three brothers, Bill Leatherwood
(Ann), Virgil Leatherwood (Jeanette) and June Leatherwood (Bettye Gail).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Nina
Leatherwood; their son, Mike Leatherwood and his wife, Shirley; two sisters, Ruby
Tacker and Mary Myers (Lean); and two brothers, Buddy Leatherwood and Jack
Leatherwood.
Funeral Services for Mr. Leatherwood will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, September 30, 2022
at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville, Tennessee with Bro. Wayne Hodge,
pastor of Forty-Five Baptist Church in Moscow, officiating. Interment will follow in the
Forty-Five Church Cemetery. A visitation for Mr. Leatherwood will be from 12 to 1 P.M.
Friday, September 30, 2022 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Mr. Leatherwood’s grandsons, Luke
Leatherwood, Austin Leatherwood, Mark Garrett, Hayden Leatherwood, Ty
Leatherwood and Cade Leatherwood and great-grandsons, Drew Pruett and Charles
“CJ” Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Adlon and Bryton Lipford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Forty-Five Baptist
Church Cemetery Fund, 1075 Leatherwood Road, Moscow, TN 38057.
