6-year-old struck by vehicle in Martin, police say

MARTIN, Tenn. — The Martin Police Department says a six-year-old was struck by a vehicle on Friday.

According to police, around 2:41 p.m. on October 7, officers responded to South Lindell Street in reference to a pedestrian stuck.

A crash report states a 39-year-old woman from Martin was traveling southbound in a Jeep Compass, when a child nearby on-foot got away from his mother and ran into the roadway.

According to the report, the child ran in front of the Jeep and was struck by the vehicle on his left side.

Officers determined the driver was wearing a seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries, and no use of drugs or alcohol was suspected.

Police say the child was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
