Special Weather Statement Concerning Ice and Slick Spots Today
Tuesday AM Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
A special weather statement has been issued for the northern counties due to black ice and slick roads until Noon today. More on the weather below.
Northwest Tennessee saw a mix of sleet an snow as temperatures went below freezing before most other areas did. A light Glaze was on the roadways and light accumulations of snow and sleet can be seen on grassy surface areas on many of our cameras throughout northwest Tennessee. Dry weather will be with us the next couple of days but another round of winter weather is looking possible Thursday night and Friday.
Cold rain had already been changing to freezing rain and sleet over northwest Tennessee shortly after 6 PM and continued the get heavier late into the night as seen in the radar snapshot below.

THIS WEEK AHEAD:
A more stable pattern enters the picture ahead for the next couple of days as high pressure moves out way. A northerly flow will keep it cold today with highs only up to the mid 30s. Northwest winds 5-15 Mph. Partly cloudy skies by the afternoon, turning to a mostly clear and cold night with lows around 22. Warming up tomorrow to the upper 40s under mostly sunny skies. Partly cloudy and not as cold on Wednesday night, lows around 32.
THE NEXT POTENTIAL WINTER WEATHER EVENT:
A similar setup looks to be in the making for Thursday night into early Friday morning. Skies will become mostly cloudy on Thursday with highs around 41. Most of the rain will stay away in the daylight hours but scattered areas of cold rain will move up into the area Thursday night along with falling temperatures to around 30 degrees. Futurecast is hinting towards another wintry mix perhaps a little further south than what we just experienced but mostly along and north of I-40. Again, This looks to be a short lived, overnight event as highs return to the lower 40s on Friday afternoon. Friday afternoon and evening looks dry with partly cloudy skies. Friday night we’ll dip back to around 30 for the overnight low. Saturday will be the warmest day of the week as highs climb to near 50 degrees under a mix of clouds and sunshine. Another round of showers Sunday and we may have some scattered snow flurries Sunday night.
We’ll have plenty of updates between now and Thursday night so be sure and tune in on-air and/or online for the latest on the weather this week.
