MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WBBJ) - Doctors at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital are urging families to prioritize safety while trick-or-treating, fall festivals and other festivities.

“According to Safe Kids Worldwide, on average, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Nighttime activities can limit visibility for drivers, but families can take extra precautions to help keep their little ones safe,” said Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Top Halloween Safety Tips

  • Increase visibility by wearing bright colored clothing, decorative bags and costumes with reflective tape or stickers.
  • Put electronic devices down while crossing the street. Make sure you walk across the street, not run.
  • Choose costumes that fit your children to prevent trips and falls.
  • Choose face paint over masks as they can limit children’s vision.
  • Accompany children under the age of 12.
  • Watch for cars while crossing the street as well as near driveways or alleys.
