Junior Jodie Tiley picked up a victory at No. 1 singles for The University of Tennessee at Martin, but the Skyhawks couldn’t find any more luck against Arkansas State, dropping a 6-1 decision at Skyhawk Varsity Courts yesterday. “Despite the scores, we really did not play that badly,” UT Martin head coach Dennis Taylor said. The Skyhawks got close to winning their No. 2 matchup in doubles, but Anna Winkelmann and Alice Laing came up just short, falling 8-7. UT Martin fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles and 8-4 at No. 3. As previously mentioned, Tiley overcame a loss in the first set to down Emily Crowe 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Laing forced a third set tiebreaker at No. 2 but fell 6-7, 6-1, 10-5 at No. 2. That would be the closest as the Skyhawks would get to another victory.
