Neighbor reacts to homicide investigation in Allenton Heights
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Police are investigating the city’s seventh homicide of the year. Saturday night the intersection of East King and Elm St. was closed off as police continued their homicide investigation in Allenton Heights. Jackee Henning lives near by and says hearing the gunshots caused her to hit the floor for cover.
“I’m not a sound sleeper,” Henning said. “I heard something go pow pow pow. I said this is ridiculous.”
Behind police tape, you could see multiple evidence markers and even a bloody piece of clothing at another scene in the complex.
Jackson Police confirm one person died Saturday night, but Henning’s says other neighbors say more people may have been involved.
“He said somebody got shot over here and somebody is dead,” Henning said. “And two more got shot and they in route to the hospital.”
With one confirmed fatality and possibly more victims, Henning says she hates that something like this happened so close to home.
“I feel for the parents of that child that got killed last night,” Henning said. “This don’t make no sense. Who in the world is out here shooting somebody. For what? I bet they shooting about a woman or some dope.”
Although police worked well into Sunday morning, Henning says she was eventually able to go back to sleep, but with a lot on her mind.
“I said my prayers and went back to sleep,” she said. “I asked god to watch over me, watch over all of us.”
Jackson police say there should be an update on this case sometime Monday morning.
