District attorney releases file in Memphis police shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Shelby County district attorney’s office has released the investigative file in the fatal shooting of a man by two Memphis police officers in January.

The files posted Thursday on the district attorney’s website provides witness and officer statements, and results of forensic analysis, resulting from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the death of 32-year-old Jonathon Bratcher.

Bratcher was shot Jan. 27 after he crashed a car and led police on a foot chase. Police said he shot at officers before he was killed. District attorney Amy Weirich has said the two officers involved will not be charged.

Witnesses said they heard 15-20 shots, but they did not see the shooting take place. A medical examiner said Bratcher was shot once in the back of the head.
