Flash Flood Watch Issued for West Tennessee

Weather Update – 9:00 p.m. – Monday

A Flood Watch is in effect for Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Shelby, and Tipton counties in West Tennessee from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 12 p.m. Thursday morning. A slow-moving weather pattern will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area from Tuesday night through Thursday morning, and widespread heavy rainfall is expected to come and go during that time period. Rainfall totals of 1 to 4 inches are expected in the watch area over the next few days with localized higher amounts possible.

After a beautiful sunny afternoon in West Tennessee with temperatures in the middle 60s we’ll continue to see clear skies overnight. Calm winds will allow temperatures to drop to the upper 30s by sunrise Tuesday morning.

Temperatures just above freezing early tomorrow will rebound into the upper 60s and lower 70s during the afternoon under mostly sunny skies that ultimately cloud up with rain returning after sunset. A Flood Watch goes into effect for the area at 6 p.m. with a potential for heavy showers with occasional thunderstorms tomorrow night. There’s a marginal risk for severe weather in southwest Tennessee with the primary concern being for damaging winds and large hail in any storms that become strong. Most of the area will just be dealing with heavy rain at worst since this risk is lower than Saturday’s, but keep an eye out for any changes.
