Election workers prepare for early voting
JACKSON, Tenn. — Starting Wednesday, voters in Tennessee can cast ballots for the next president of the United States.
Madison County election workers set up for early voting Tuesday. Madison County Administrator of Elections Kim Buckley said they want to be ready for voters.
“We’re sensing a lot of excitement, so I think we’re going to have a good turnout,” Buckley said.
Staring at 9 a.m. Wednesday, registered voters can cast ballots at the Madison County Agricultural Complex Auditorium on North Parkway. “I would encourage anyone who is coming to vote to have a look at the sample ballot,” Buckley said.
The ballot features presidential candidates and several local races. The Republican ticket also includes delegates. “Quite a few of them are running,” Buckley said. “It’s a pretty lengthy ballot.”
Buckley said people can either vote in the Republican primary or the Democratic primary, not both. “Regardless of what primary you vote in, when the general election arrives you can vote for the candidate of your choice,” Buckley said.
Early voting runs through Feb. 23. The office will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, for Presidents Day.
Cast your ballot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
Buckley said voters must bring a state or federally issued photo ID. The primary will be held March 1.
