Ramsey Won’t Run In 2014

Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey is ruling out a rematch against Gov. Bill Haslam in 2014.

Ramsey, who came in third in last year’s Republican gubernatorial primary, has been at odds with the new governor on several key issues this year, sparking speculation about whether he was positioning himself for another run at statewide office.

But Ramsey told reporters at his weekly press conference on Thursday that he is categorically ruling out another bid for governor.

The Blountville auctioneer also repeated claims that the media is exaggerating his differences with Haslam over issues like teachers’ collective bargaining rights, judicial selection and controlling medications used to make methamphetamine.

The governor and the state’s two U.S. senators are the only positions elected by statewide vote in Tennessee.
