Crime Victims To Be Honored

Some 40 people who have been crime victims will be honored Tuesday night for volunteer work at Middle Tennessee prisons.

The 40 speak to offenders as part of the Tennessee Department of Corrections’ victim impact classes.

They will be saluted during ceremonies at the Charles B. Bass Correctional Complex in Nashville during National Victims Rights Week.

During their visits, the volunteers share their stories and discuss far-reaching effects of crime.

Corrections Commissioner Derrick Schofield said in a news release that for many offenders, these meetings are the first time they recognize the harm they have caused. He said they then can start to seriously contemplate change.
