Gas Prices Changing Habits

Some economists said consumers are spending more in retail, but less at the gas pump and two Henderson men said they are following the trend. “We both have different schedules once we get to work but give or take a few minutes at the end of the day it’s always easier to ride together,” said Kyle Nichols, who, along with Michael Young, commutes daily to Pringles Park. “It’s been a little inconvenient just from the fact if he has to stay late an hour or once or twice I’ve had to stay late, but the inconvenience is worth it .You just work together to save money,” said Young. Kyle said it’s not only saved his and Michael’s wallet, but he’s also been on time everyday since they started commuting. But not all consumers agree with the trend economists said Americans are adapting to. “Well I don’t buy unless it’s on sale whether the economy’s good or bad. Just what I’ve always done,” said Natalie Boone, a shopper. Boone admitted her transportation habits have changed. “Our habits have changed in that we combine trips. We don’t just go out for anything,” said Boone. Studies show the average cost of a gallon of gas in Tennessee is $3.62, which is up from last week. The highest gas prices in the U.S. are in Hawaii, where a gallon of regular unleaded gas averages $4.40 a gallon.
